TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
No Appearance required doesn’t mean that you will not have consequences for receiving a traffic violation. If you do not appear or pay a traffic ticket prior to the court date a default judgment may be entered against you. A default judgment in Illinois is a court order that can be entered against a defendant who misses a court date or doesn’t respond to a traffic citation. Default judgments result in a person paying additional court cost as opposed to paying the ticket upfront prior to a judgment from the court.
How can a default judgment be entered?
- The defendant doesn’t appear in court for their first court date
- The defendant doesn’t file an answer to the complaint by the first court date
- The defendant stops participating in court dates or other court requirements
What are the consequences of a traffic violation conviction?
A conviction for a traffic violation can result in license suspension, increased insurance rates, and employment consequences.
